Ron Paul’s simple and effective response “I want to legalize freedom!”
Here is an approach I’ve used with both conservatives and liberals. Ask them the following 4 questions – –
“A person tries to commit suicide but fails. Should they be A) fined, B) put in jail, C) no legal penalty?
A person refuses to exercise or eat a proper diet. Should they be A) fined, B) put in jail, C) no legal penalty?
A person regularly skydives, scuba dives, and many other risky activities. Should they be A) fined, B) put in jail, C) no legal penalty?
A person drinks themself into a stupor in their home, and passes out on their couch. Should they be A) fined, B) put in jail, C) no legal penalty?
Typically, everyone has answered “C) no legal penalty” on all questions.
Now ask them “Is it fair to say the reason you didn’t want to make any of these things illegal is because we own ourselves and our behavior, an none of these things hurt or endangered anyone else?
Typically, everyone answers “yes”
Now, recap what they agreed to:
“We have the right to kill ourselves quickly with suicide. We have the right to kill ourselves slowly with a bad diet and no exercise. We have the right to put our lives at risk with adrenaline sports, and we have the right to take the mind altering drug of alcohol as long as we don’t drive or impact others.”
They nod their head in agreement…
Now ask them “If you believe that, can you explain why you also support laws forcing us to wear seat belts and laws which criminalize drugs and prostitution?”
Sit back, and enjoy the panicked stuttering that follows as they try to dig out of their own inconsistencies.
Simply put, there can be no crime if there isn’t a victim. As far as legalizing heroin goes, Freedom is 1000x more addictive because it feeds the human soul.
